I’ve definitely learned from the rookie mistake of sourcing exclusively by brand. I STILL have this not so cute Free People sweater I probably spent $8 on when I first started reselling because it was Free People, duh!
The truth is you can’t source solely by brand - just because a brand is trending doesn’t necessarily mean the jeans you found of that brand are going to be trending. So, here’s a list of specific things I am on the lookout for when sourcing.
Levi’s
- Wedgie fit jeans
- High rise straight leg jeans
- High rise distressed shorts
Midi skirts
Graphic Tees
- Popular bands
- Harley Davidson
- Whiskeys + Beer
Chunky Oversized Sweaters
- Trendy silhouette
- Quality material
100% Leather Western Style Belt
Aritzia
- Modern closet staple pieces (think statement jackets or structured blouses)
Lululemon
- Workout shorts
Matching 2-Piece Casual Sets
Reformation
- Everything. Perhaps the one exception for me right now. I pick up every Reformation piece I find and have not regretted it.
Cropped Flare Jeans
Sezane
- Another almost exception. Pretty much anything in good condition, I’ll grab.
Madewell
- High rise skinny jeans
- Newer statement pieces such as midi dresses, sweaters, (check the style tag found near the care tag to see the season + year it was produced)
Show Me Your Mumu
- Maxi / wedding guest dresses
Feminine Tops + Dresses
- Sweetheart necklines
- Puff / cap sleeves
- Frills or ruffles
- Wrap style
Spell & The Gypsy Collective
- Dresses
- Skirts
- Tops
Bermuda Biker Shorts
That's about everything at the tippity top of my sourcing list! Let me know in a comment below what's on yours!
