I Was Struggling To Drive Poshmark Sales Until I Started Doing This

So it’s obvious that sending out offers to likers (OTL) on Poshmark will drive sales and generally increase traffic to your closet, but like, what’s the best strategy?

Should you send out OTL’s once a week on every single item in your closet? Or maybe once a month? Should you use the Poshmark calculator to send out 10, 20 or 30% discounts? Should you offer free shipping? Or should you add the item to a bundle and send out a private OTL?

For literally my entire Poshmark selling career, the struggle to find a solid OTL strategy has been real. Up until recently, my strategy consisted of waiting a few weeks until I finally bossed up and took the time to send an OTL on every single item in my closet.

I would start from the bottom of my closet and work my way up, usually ditching the Poshmark calculator and just sending out my own (desperate) offer. I had heard that customers are more likely to purchase an item ending in a 4 or 9 because they subconsciously feel it’s a better deal (like, “Wow, I can get this for under $25? Sold!”).

So basically, once a month, I'd send out a desperate offer ending in a 4 or 9 on all items in my closet. And I mean, it worked. I made sales with this method, but I knew it was not the most effective OTL strategy. It took a lot of time and I was only seeing results one day out of the month. Yikes!

I heard of people sending out OTL’s every day, but I was like what the heck - how? Send an OTL on every piece every day? That's crazy! How are these people deciding what to send an OTL on?

I also heard of people sending OTL’s immediately after someone liked an item, and this seemed equally unsustainable to me. Like, am I just supposed to keep watch of my Posh notifications 24/7 to send out an offer as soon as someone likes something?

A few weeks ago, I heard Mogi Beth mention she sends out OTL's right after sharing her closet to people who have recently liked the item. These people are active on the app and have just liked your item, so they're a lot more likely to respond to an offer. So you're not just checking your notifications at all hours of the day to send out OTL's.

It made so much sense to me, and it also seemed pretty sustainable. Sharing my closet is something I have already incorporated into my daily routine, so it didn't seem like too much of a hassle to just spend a few extra minutes sending out OTL's right after.

So I decided to commit to this strategy and implement it consistently for 2 weeks. Here's what it looked like:

I share my closet twice a day every day, once in the morning and once in the evening/night. After sharing my closet, I would go to the "likes" section of my Poshmark notifications and send out an offer on everything that didn't yet have an active offer on it (see video below). I use the Poshmark discount calculator and will send out 10% on a brand new item, 20% on most items, and 30% on older items. I offer the $4.99 shipping discount.

It's honestly v efficient--it doesn't take me much time at all. If you click an item and see there's already an active offer on it, just move on to the next one. After doing it for a day or two, you're able to easily tell which notifications you had previously sent an offer on the last time you shared your closet and not worry about those. It honestly didn't take much time at all once I got the hang of it.

The first week of doing this, I saw a major surge in my sales. Like 3-4x my usual sales. I had a lot of sales come from Poshers accepting my OTL. Still, others came from someone making a counteroffer on my OTL. Sending out an OTL does this--it shows shoppers you're open to offers and willing to negotiate.

My sales have tapered off a bit after doing this twice a day for a few weeks now, but the boost in my sales was really encouraging and enforced the idea that driving sales does not have to be this huge daunting task. If you're struggling with managing a sales-driving strategy like I was, I want to encourage you to find something sustainable for yourself, and do it consistently. Here are a few tips to help get you started in driving sales:

Find Something To Incorporate Into A Routine

You're way more likely to remember and to implement your strategy when it is part of your routine. Try sending OTL's after sharing your closet, or at a set time one day a week (after dinner on Thursday, for example).

Consistency Is Key

If there's one thing I know about selling successfully on Poshmark, it's this: consistency is key. I really think the algorithm favors consistency, so try to be consistent and faithful with your sales-driving strategies. Also, if you're consistent, you'll be able to easily determine which strategies are working for you.

Test Out New Strategies

Be open to trying new things! You'll never know how successful a strategy is until you test it out! Try using the bundle feature. Try adding the like to a bundle. Try using the discount calculator. Try sending OTL's every Tuesday and Friday. Try sending OTL's that end with 9's and 4's. Try it all and see what works!

Do What Works For You

What really matters is finding a strategy that (1) you're able to consistently implement and make a part of your routine and (2) actually increases your sales. Take time to test out new strategies. Keep what's working for you, and forget about what's not doing it for you.

I hope you're encouraged to start driving more sales and finding what moves the needle for you! Would love to hear your thoughts below, and if you have an amazing OTL strategy you've been implementing, PLS share!
