Happy New Year! 2020 is our year, babe! I started 2019 with no direction at all in regards to my reselling business. This year is different. I made a list of business resolutions, general and specific.
Start My Day More Focused
I usually fall asleep thinking of all the things I need to get done the next day, then spend the next day trying to remember everything I need to get done. To combat that, I just started implementing a mind dump into my morning routine. I set a timer for 10 minutes, then just write everything on my mind. Very cathartic. Then, I go back and highlight everything that is a to-do. This helps in clearing my mind and focusing in on what needs to get done.
Consistent Blog Posts
A minimum of one new blog post a week. I have something exciting for the blog in the works, so there will be even more to look forward to!
Cut Out Distractions Set specific time aside for browsing on Instagram, playing with my dog, online shopping, etc. then keeping them at bay. I’m also being more mindful of my habitual activity. Just the other day, while I'm waiting for something to load on my computer, I caught myself habitually pulling up Instagram. Like what? This is the kind of thing I'm really trying to eliminate.
Schedule My Instagram Activity To limit my time spent scrolling aimlessly through Instagram, I want to set a daily Instagram schedule. This will vary day-to-day depending on what I have going on that day, but it would be something like: 10AM - check + respond to notifications 12-12:30PM - post + respond to activity 3PM - browse feed + engage on others’ posts 9PM - check + respond to notifications As I finish typing this, I already know this is something I am not going to be doing successfully every day, but at the very least, I want to be intentional and mindful when I open up the app.
Read More Motivating Books I’m keeping my Kindle out right next to my bed in an effort to actually use it. I want to read more, specifically business books. On my radar is Ed Mylett’s #MaxOut Your Life: Strategies for Becoming an Elite Performer and Marie Forleo’s Everything is Figureoutable.
Waste Less Money Spending money is literally my favorite thing to do. Second to nothing. But this year, I want to cut unneeded costs and focus on making good investments instead. I want to research things (from reseller tools to beauty products) before buying to make sure it is exactly what I want. I am not going to purchase things so hastily (as I usually do). And I’m finding ways to cut unnecessary expenses, such as cheaper polymailers (that are still cute, obvi).
Consistent Poshmark Activity I’d like to strive for consistent activity on Poshmark with a schedule of something like this (I’ll also be sharing my closet 2-3x daily): Monday - Add 3 new listings + share previous customers’ closets Tuesday - Share Posh buyers’ closets Wednesday - Add 2 new listings Thursday - Add 10 new listings Friday - Share PFF closets Saturday - Add 3 new listings Sunday - Send offers to likers on entire closet I do recognize the advantage of switching things up and seeing which days sending out offers and adding new listings results in the most sales for you. Would maybe try a rotation of this - each week, moving everything down one day, for example.
Make Full-Time Profit
I’m striving to make full-time profits through reselling, approximately $2600 a month. To do this, it's helpful to figure out how many items a day or week you need to sell. You can figure that out by finding your average sale price, then doing the math: Desired Monthly Income/ My Average Sale Price = How Many Sales I Need Per Month
Mine is as follows $2600/$37= 70
70 sales needed per month, which comes out to about 2.34 each day. Totally doable! (Average sale price calculated through the last 3 months of My Sale Report. Note this is actually my average while in NYC - my average sale price is probably lower here in Nashville, so I’ll actually need a bit more sales per day).
Limit Phone Time
The first thing I’m doing to limit my screen time is not browse my phone 30 minutes before and after bed. When I turn my alarm off in the morning, I put my phone down right away and do not allow myself to check my notifications or anything. Before bed is a little trickier, but the key is just not allowing myself to scroll for fun on my phone 30 minutes before. Sometimes I’m in bed listing or planning my Instagram post, but if I’m in bed with nothing to do, I’m going to choose to read my Kindle rather than scroll on my phone.
Define My Closet Style
I want my style to be so defined that when you see something in the thrift store that would fit my closet vibe, you'd think "OMG, this would be perf for newyorkposher!". Ya know? I'm also seeing a new name on the horizon. Leave a comment if you have any suggestions!
Great article. Reading this and waking up to a $175 purchase on a $6 Estate sale sweater that Inbought Thursday is the perfect Sunday morning to me 💗 Cheers to you too in 2020 🥂
